Penang Trip! - Weekend 3.

Whoooooooooooo hooooooooo, Penang here we come! We were so excited to be going to Penang to actually relax beside a pool and soak up some real sunshine..........as we arrived it was raining! Excellent! We jumped straight in a taxi from the airport to the other side of the island to Batu Ferringu Beach resort where our hotel was.

Our hotel was lovely and the rooms were huge. As it was raining we all jumped straight into bed to catch up on some ZZZZZZZ's! When we woke up the sun had managed to show its face so we spent the rest of the day by the pool! Sadly and regrettably Charlotte burnt very badly which she was not amused with but everyone else managed to get a reasonable tan that they were happy with!

Again Saturday was much the same the day before much to Sam's dismay! However on Sunday the weather totally turned and there was severe rain which meant that none of us could be bothered to explore Penang's main city, Georgetown, so instead we got straight on a bus and went to the cinema.

We watched a film called Orphan and it is safe to say that Sam was scared!!!!!!!!!!!!

Week 3

Monday: Today we went up Menara KL (KL Tower). What an amazing view of the city from up there. We learned that it is the fourth tallest telecommunications tower in the world, standing at 451m.

Tuesday: CRAB ISLAND!!! What an amazing day. Definately the best yet!!! We met the UM Students at KL Sentral to begin our journey to the island. After an hour long train ride we arrived at the port where we boarded an old boat which took us across to the island. What a lovely place. All the houses are built on stilts in the water. There were no roads or cars, everybody rode bicycles. After a seafood lunch of crabs, prawns, fish and clams (kayleigh and linzi were not impressed) we all hired bicycles and went on a tour around the island. Linzi got eaten alive by the mosquitos but she had a fab day, as did the rest of us!!!

Wednesday: Today we visited the craft museum which showcased various crafted items such as clothes, jewellery and pewter products. Kayleigh was in her oils and we lost her in the shop for quite a while. We had the afternoon free so we decided to go bowling. Sam was very worried that he would be beaten by a girl, but he did win. It took charlotte the whole game to warm up but she found her swing in the second game.

Genting Highland Trip

Well, what an experience the cable car was!!!!!!! Kayleigh and Charlotte were so scared they couldn’t speak apart from some particular 'French words' while Sabine and Sam just couldn't get enough and were practically hanging out of the window! The cable car took us from the bottom of the mountain to the top where we were amongst the clouds in a theme park. Even though Charlotte and Kayleigh were scared I think secretly they enjoyed the experience and they were glad they did it as the cable car went over a rain forest. The theme park was amazing as it was like a totally different world up there, there were a few hotels, casinos, shopping malls, countless restaurants and a theme park! So random but brilliant.

The rides their selves weren’t the most thrilling but the location was fabulous and a must do!

2 Weeks in!

Wowza, can you believe it, we are now two weeks into our trip! It has gone really quickly! (But then time does when you’re having fun!) So far we have seen the Petronas Towers, went to the Zoo, Went to an Aquarium, the Batu Caves and a countless number of temples and Mosques.

We had a great evening at the Malaysian Graduate Dinner where we all wore traditional Malaysian attire. Sabine looked like a pink zebra, Kayleigh looked like she had just jumped into a bush of flowers, Sam looked like he was ready for bed in his P.J's with a boat shaped hat (Sonkok), Charlotte looked more like she was dressed in traditional Indian wear and Linzi managed to carry it off!

We also had a day in Putra Jaya which was good as we went to see a flower show; Sam was well in his element! We did have a few industrial visits planned but for some reason they were cancelled! Ah well!

Kayleigh is getting fed up of Malaysian food as well as Nando’s as that’s all she eats!

We went to Little India today to try some of their local delicacies which were interesting! Charlotte spent a small fortune on Indian desserts!

Unfortunately our trip to Malacca has been cancelled for tomorrow (Saturday) due to Swine flu. However instead of this we are going to Genting Theme Park which should be a barrel of laughs!

We are all looking forward to Sunday as we have a big meal organised with some of our friends that we have met here.

Tour of the University of Malaya

The university is absolutly huge! Much bigger than Glamorgan and there are other sites too! We had a very quick tour of the campus and then we settled for lunch. The choice was basically fish, fish, fish or chicken chop! Chicken chop is very common over here, we hate it! It is just fat on a bone with a little bit of chicken! lush!!!!!

The rest of the day was our own, so we probably just went over to our local coffe shop for free internet (cant remember exactly!).

On Tuesday we went back to the university for a morning with the Universities Business club students. They were so lovely and very excited to meet us. We played some educational games which was a good ice breaker and then they took us for breakfast. This was Charlottes favourite meal ever! It was like a chocolate omlette/pancake. Yum!

Had a bit of a nightmare this day as Sam had run out of cash so he needed to get money out from his travel card- however after touring the whole of KL looking for somewhere which would accept it, he found nothing! So he is now waiting for Linzi's boyfirend to bring some cash over for him! Brilllliiiaannt! He now owes us all money!haha.

First Impressions

Slightly slow start as we arrived and found out we needed to get toilet roll. However once everyone had relieved themselves, it was game on!!!

Day 1

After buying essentials we ventured into KL central where we found the legend, Kenneth. He was the nicest guy you could meet and gave all five of us a lift to 'The Garden' shopping mall. From here we had our first taste of Malaysian fast food which was chicken (pink chicken) and rice.

Day 2

As we were left to fend for ourselves for the weekend we began our quest for a Malaysian market. In order to get there we jumped on the first bus we saw which cost a mere 40p each. We arrived at KL central again and met another fantastic friend named paduwan who showed us the underground train station. Charl and Linzi took a toilet trip and came out looking like they had seen a ghost! There was no toilet and no toilet paper, just a hole in the ground and a hose. Since then they have kept to the apartment toilet! In the afternoon we went to KLCC which is another grand shopping mall where Sam, to his delight, was dragged around clothes shops. In the evening we ventured into China Town where we ate lots of random fruit including Dragon fruit, Jack fruit, Guava, water chestnuts and lots that we couldn't pronounce.
